Job Overview
Advanced materials recovery facility and a combined heat and power plant, designed to recover value from waste and maximise diversion from landfills have an opportunity for a E, C, & I Engineer to join the team.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Key Tasks
- Summary
- Support the Root Cause Analysis process for GOL
- Support the Control Systems working group for GOL
- Support the Operational Excellence development program
- Coordination between the maintenance team and the EC&I team
- Support the C&I team
Roles and Responsibilities
- Undertaking / assisting in plant developments & projects
- Working in accordance with the Cobalt Safety Rules, actively managing the subcontractors with the setting to work process and supervising contractors
- Operating at all times safely, in line with the company’s Core Elements & Expectations, and at all times adhering to the Cobalt Life Saving Rules.
- Adhere to all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation at all times.
- Assist the operations team in understanding and applying elegant fault finding.
- Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices.
- Operating at all times safely, in line with Gladsmuir Core Elements & Expectations, and at all times adhering to the Cobalt Life Saving Rules.
- Working with the company CMMS to assure accurate maintenance records, and comprehensive asset data information.
- Participate with the CSWG providing interface and feedback for the site,.
- Engage with the Operations team for the development of robust and elegant fault finding process.
- Become an integral part of the Asset Maintenance Team, routinely liaising with other areas of the business to effectively maximise the asset availability and utilisation.
- Proactively provide support to the GOL Management of Change process, raising instances for consideration, and supporting the assessment of other engineering changes when required.
- Report unsafe acts and conditions within the GOL observation reporting tool and perform or assist with investigations when requested.
- Share knowledge with other operating assets.
- Working with engineering drawings, P&ID’s.
- Assist with ensuring all maintenance equipment is regularly checked and is complaint with HSE regulations and that any defects are reported.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the workshop and the rest of the facility
- Conduct safety compliance inspections and maintain records.
AD Hoc Responsibilities
- Undertake any reasonable requests or tasks as directed by the Line Manager or Cobalt Management
- Target Work breakdown: 20% meetings, 40% direct supervision and 40% guidance and development of Root Cause Analysis management

Familiarity of:
- CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems)
- UPS Systems
- Motor and Drive Systems
- Electrical Distribution Equipment
- Membership of a relevant Professional Body (i.e. IET, InstMC)
Qualifications/Tickets/Licences Required
- Existing right to work in the UK.
- Willingness to travel (Within UK)
- A recognised engineering qualification at HNC/City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 Electrical qualifications (or equivalent experience)
- Professional Experience
- Previous experience in an Energy from Waste facility, or power generation, or equivalent.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of E, C & I systems, including VSD’s, distribution and various instrumentation.
- Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is desirable but not essential.
- Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legal requirements.
- Demonstrable experience working with Permit-to-Work systems.
- IT Skills
- IT literate and able to use Microsoft package as well as bespoke software (experience of MAXIMO or similar).
